Pulses – the NEW Protein Superfood

Sysco BC has started a new information piece called “Did You Know…”. Each issue will focus on a different topic of interest. This month we look at the Superfood PULSES!

Did you know that Pulses are excellent for your body and provide you with nutrients, vitamins and minerals that benefit your health in a variety of ways?  Pulses are part of the legume family, and are edible  dried seeds of the plants of crops harvested solely for dry grain – dried yellow and green peas, chickpeas, lentils, beans being the most common pulses. Pulses also contain virtually no fat.

The 68th UN General Assembly called last year the International Year of Pulses. Did you know that Canada is the world’s largest exporter of lentils and peas?  Canada’s pulse industry meets the needs of more than 150 markets around the world!

See attached DID YOU KNOW pdf  for more information on Pulses and to try the recipe for Black Bean Brownies…yes you read that correctly, BLACK BEAN BROWNIE and they are so delicious and high in protein.
